Magic ring

The magic ring starts a round piece, like a hat top or a toy, with no hole in the middle. Patterns write it as MR or “magic ring”.

  1. Step 1

    Wrap the yarn around two fingers so the strands cross, making a ring.

  2. Step 2

    Put the hook under both strands, pull up a loop and make 1 chain. This chain is not a stitch.

  3. Step 3

    Work the first round of stitches into the ring, over both strands. The pattern says how many, for example 6 sc.

  4. Step 4

    Pull the tail firmly: the ring closes into a tight circle.

Good to knowAfter a few rounds, weave the tail in well. A magic ring can open if the tail is cut too short.
